Jul. 26–The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts announced Friday its 2008-2009 season, which includes performances by Tony Award winners, lecture series and rock symphonies.

“We always follow the philosophy that we are a community center,” said Kravis spokesman Brian Bixler. “We want to offer something for everyone.”

Among the offerings is Kravis On Broadway — a five-show series of touring Broadway performances that feature Tony award winners and include Avenue Q, The Drowsy Chaperone, Legally Blonde The Musical, Fiddler on the Roof and The Wizard of Oz.

The center will showcase the Regional Arts Concert Series of classical music with performances by the New York Philharmonic as well as the Dublin Philharmonic and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.

There are also new events at the 17-year-old center: a collaboration with New York University for the NYU Heyman Center Lecture series, which features lectures on topics such as the economy, real estate and women in philanthropy and Movies By Moonlight, a sequence of films shown at the center’s outdoor Andrew and Michael Gosman Amphitheater.

“People are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic baskets,” he said. “We’ll be showing family friendly movies.”

There are two rock tribute shows: The Music of Led Zeppelin: A Rock Symphony and The Pink Floyd Experience.

“Tribute shows have become very popular in the last couple of years,” Bixler said. “It’s attracting fans of the era when that music was popular but grandparents are also bringing their grandchildren and introducing it to a new generation.”

Also appearing for the first time will be comedian Lewis Black, rock star Peter Frampton and Grammy Award winner Vince Gill.
