Haverhill Has Annual Armenian Food and Music Festival

Jul. 28–The Armenian Church at Hye Pointe, Ward Hill, will host an Armenian music and food festival Sunday, Aug. 24, from noon to 6 p.m. at the American Legion Farm, 1314 Main St.
Music will be provided by the Jason Naroian Ensemble, featuring Jason Naroian on dumbeg and vocals, Leon Janikian on clarinet, John Arzigian on accordion and vocals, Joe Kouyoumjian on the oud, and Michael Naroian on dumbeg.
The picnic-style dinner includes shish kebab, chicken kebab, losh kebab dinners with pilaf and salad, kheyma with salad, hot dogs, Armenian and American pastries and beverages. There will be an 11 a.m. church service at the picnic grounds.
A raffle for $1,000 and for gift certificates will be held. Raffle tickets are $2 each. Bring your lawn chairs. Admission for adults is a $1 donation. No charge for children. Ball fields and hiking trails will be available. The function hall is air-conditioned. For more information, call 978-372-9227.
Kiwanis Club discusses wines and vineyards
Regional wines and vineyards will be discussed by members of the Kiwanis Club tomorrow at noon at the Haverhill Country Club.
The program will feature Tom Zack, director of the Zorvino Vineyard in Sandown, N.H.
The club meets each Tuesday at noon.
Family Movie Night
Tomorrow’s Outdoor Family Movie is “Matilda,” rated PG. The movie will be shown at 8:30 p.m. in Columbus Park. This summer’s free movie night is sponsored by England’s MicroCreamery, Essex Street Grille, Trattoria Al Forno, Maria’s Family Restaurant and Krueger Flatbreads. The film will be projected onto a temporary screen. The audience may lounge on the lawn to enjoy the show. Admission is free.
All Saints celebrates 10th anniversary
All Saints Parish will celebrate its 10th anniversary Nov. 1 (All Saints Day). The celebration will begin with a Liturgical celebration at 4 p.m. Plans are moving forward to making this a very special Liturgy. At 5:15 p.m., parishioners will meet in the Parish Hall for a celebratory dinner. Details on purchasing tickets will be announced soon. For more information, call 978-372-7721. All Saints Parish was formed Aug. 28-29, 1998, when St. Michael, St. Rita, St. George and St. Joseph combined into one parish.
Samaritan volunteers needed
The Samaritans of the Merrimack Valley rely on volunteers who, through the goodness of their hearts, reach out to help people who call our confidential crisis help lines. People from all walks of life are trained to offer support and caring for those who are lonely, despairing or suicidal. The next volunteer training will be Aug. 18, 20, 25 and 27, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Participants must attend all sessions.
