Viejas Casino Hosts Ultimate Music Challenge Finals
Posted on: Wednesday, 30 July 2008, 21:00 CDT
For the second year, Viejas Casino is proud to host the Ultimate Music Challenge finals this Sunday, August 3, at 8 p.m. Over the past eight weeks, cover bands from all over San Diego have been competing for their chance to win $20,000 and the title of Ultimate Music Challenge winners.
Every Sunday since May 25, the DreamCatcher at Viejas Casino has come alive with a packed audience of music fans cheering on their favorite cover band. Over 100 bands applied for the competition, and from the 40 bands competing, only three will walk away richer than they started. First place wins $20,000 cash, second place wins $8,000 and third place walks away with $4,000.
"The competition this year has been fierce! The bands and crowd have exceeded our expectations," said event producer Jason Mullen. "There is some incredible talent in San Diego, and this competition is the perfect way to discover some of that talent and is a great way to spend an entertaining, and free, Sunday evening."
The competition is judged by Danielle LoPresti, accomplished musician producer and event organizer; the internationally recognized jazz guitarist Jaime Valle; and Edwin Decker, a freelance music journalist and columnist. The bands competing in the finals include Alice Cooper tribute band Alice and the Cooper Gang, metal tribute band Monsters of Rock, Rage Against the Machine tribute band Anger is a Gift, and The Detroit Underground. The Ultimate Music Challenge is free and open to the public and is produced by Viejas Entertainment & Production.
