Alpha Closing 30th Season With Family Musical ‘Children of Eden’
By Reading Eagle, Pa.
Jul. 31–The Alpha/Omega Players will close their 30th anniversary season with the international musical hit “Children of Eden,” opening Friday at the group’s Performing Arts Center, 301 E. First St., Birdsboro.
Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 17.
Alpha, which was the first theater in the United States to stage “Children of Eden” in 1997, chose the musical to close its anniversary season because of its universal themes of love and family.
With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by John Caird, “Children of Eden” deals with struggles of families set against the backdrop of the Bible. The fi rst act begins with creation and the story of Adam and Eve, and Act Two is set with Noah and his family struggling with the great fl ood.
Returning from the 1997 production, Mark Drey directs and stars as Father. Christopher Smith and Lauren Lombardo are Adam and Eve, with their children Cain and Abel played by Jordan and Owen Halsey when young and by Michael Contreras and Sean Lynch later.
Jonathan Browning will portray Noah, with Jessica Moyer as Mama Noah, Michael Elliott as Noah’s son Japheth, Jarrod Miller as Ham and Ryan Katzenmoyer as Shem.
Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.
