Alison Steadman will star in Alan Bennett’s satirical comedy Enjoy at the Theatre Royal Bath later this month

The actress – who will forever be remembered in the role of the ghastly Beverley in Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party – will star alongside David Troughton, most recently seen in the BBC’s series of Doctor Who.

The two lead a 13-strong cast as Connie and Wilfred Craven in this rarely-performed gem written by one of theatre’s greatest observers of the English way of life.

Enjoy, directed by Christopher Luscombe, completes the Peter Hall Company season and runs at the Theatre Royal from Tuesday August 12 to Saturday August 30 prior to a UK tour.

Written in 1980, Alan Bennett’s dark comedy is set in his home town of Leeds where Wilf and Connie are living in the city’s last back-to-back.

With the demolition of the area in progress, the Cravens are soon to be re-housed in a brand new maisonette with a waste disposal unit and non-slip vinyl flooring! When a sociologist comes to observe them in their daily life, normality takes a decidedly atypical turn.

With its cast of extraordinary characters and a stunning visual denouement, Enjoy promises to be an absolute theatrical treat.

Enjoy appears at the Theatre Royal Bath from August 12-30. Ticket prices range from pounds14 to pounds30. Call the box office on 01225 448844.
