Seth Lakeman, the Westcountry born musical hero who headlines tomorrow’s Morwellham Quay Folk Festival, has announced that he’s taking his highly charged live show on the road in October for his biggest ever headline tour. Seth’s critically acclaimed third album Poor Man’s Heaven reached number eight in the mainstream UK chart on its release earlier this month, an unprecedented achievement for a so-called folk artist.

Seth Lakeman and his band play Exeter Great Hall (01392 263518) on November 16 and the Princess Pavilion, Falmouth on November 17 (www.bigwheeltickets.com)

BRIGHTON based folk-punk band, the Levellers, who headline their own sell-out Beautiful Days Festival in East Devon this month, as well as releasing a new studio album, have just announced dates for their autumn UK tour, including two Westcountry gigs. The band say Letters from the Underground is their most politically resonant album in a decade. It follows a period in which their live career has seen a major renaissance. Their 2008 sets will see them airing new songs and old favourites from their hit-rich back catalogue.

Levellers play the Hall for Cornwall, Truro (01872 262466 or visit www.hallforcornwall.co.uk) on Wednesday, December 3 and Exeter Great Hall (01392 263518 or visit www.exeterboxoffice.com) on Thursday, December 4

NOAH and the Whale, currently racing up the charts with their 5 Years Time single and preparing for the release on August 11 of their much-anticipated debut album, Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down, will tour the UK this autumn, playing at Exeter Phoenix in November. The band, led by 21-year-old vocalist, songwriter and visionary Charlie Fink, with his brother Doug on drums, Tom on fiddle, and Urby Whale on bass and harmonium, are currently enjoying a hectic summer festival schedule purveying the low-fi charm of folk- fuelled soft-pop.
