Channel Surfing: It’s Perfect When It’s a Claude Rains Marathon
By Robert Philpot, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Texas
Aug. 5–Claude Rains movies: Turner Classic Movies’ “Summer Under the Stars” series continues with 24 hours’ worth of the dapper and devious supporting actor. There’s some good stuff, but I’m shocked …shocked! …to see that Casablanca isn’t on the bill. Neither is Notorious. Sure, they both air on Ingrid Bergman’s day later this month, but really, you can’t run either of those movies too many times. Begins 5 a.m., TCM
Dora the Explorer: The series airs an Olympics-themed episode in which Dora and her friends run a Super Adventure Race. I’d like to see an Olympian face a volcano filled with gooey balls, the way Dora and her friends do. That’d make getting a gold medal even tougher. 8 a.m., NICK
Guiding Light: Talk-show host Montel Williams makes his second appearance as Clayton Boudreau, father of regular characters Remy and Mel Boudreau. 2 p.m., KTVT/Channel 11
America’s Got Talent: The seemingly endless audition episodes have, um, ended and now it’s time for the Vegas callbacks, which are a lot less painful to watch. 8 p.m., KXAS/Channel 5
Flipping Out: Big-deal house-flipper Jeff Lewis ends a second season of tantrums and obsessive-compulsive tendencies. 9 p.m., Bravo
Smash Lab:Cash Cab host Ben Bailey joins this series as narrator as the show begins a second season in which it follows engineers trying to develop life-saving devices — such as a car that can survive going off a 100-foot cliff. 9 p.m., DSC
Million Dollar Listing: Bravo begins a second season of this reality series about the adventures of three young real-estate agents in Los Angeles, all of whom are in their 20s and have already made more money than most of us will see in our lifetimes. 10 p.m., Bravo
