Centre TV Should Become a State Channel – Moscow Mayor

August 5, 2008

Moscow mayor Yuriy Luzhkov has spoken out in favour of turning Centre TV, owned by the Moscow city government, into a federal channel, Centre TV reported on 5 August.

“Centre TV channel, especially compared with the St Peterburg [TV] channel which has for some reason become a state channel, broadcasts on a scale which is approximately three times broader than St Petersburg TV. Russia should include it into the list of state channels. In essence, it is state channel already, since it not only serves the interests of Moscow and Moscow Region, possessing a powerful system of spreading the signal,” Luzhkov said.
