Houdini to Escape the Rowan County Fair
By Tonia Noe-Rose, The Morehead News, Ky.
Aug. 5--Get ready to be dazed and amazed when Aron Houdini comes to the Rowan County Fair with his two-day magic show Aug. 15 and 16.
Aron Houdini is the straightjacket escape artist world champion and is the only magician and escape artist to break away from the United States Marshal's Service, according to Jake Bradley Entertainment of New York and management for Aron Houdini.
Michael Patrick, Rowan County Fair Board member, said Aron Houdini is said to be a descendant to Harry Houdini, who became world-renowned for his stunts and feat of escapology and died Oct. 31, 1926.
"We are pleased to get him (A. Houdini) for a show at the fair," Patrick said. "We have been trying to get some entertainment for the children and something that everyone will like. And I think this will be enjoyed by the children and adults."
Aron Houdini was asked about his show and said he will perform one escape act after each night's magic show. "I've been doing this for 20 years and am really glad to be performing in that part of the state," he commented Thursday during a telephone interview. "The things I will do for Rowan County will involve both children and adults and every magic trick will involve someone from the audience."
Aron Houdini has performed all over the U.S. and has been seen on NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and ESPN. And this fall he is scheduled soon to host a show on the Sci-Fi Network.
Meanwhile, he was voted the 2007 Kentucky Entertainer of the Year, and Southern Entertainer of the Year; two awards no other magician has ever won.
The 30-year-old entertainer from Louisville has traveled all over Kentucky and the U.S., including such places as the 2008 Kentucky State Police Trooper Island and the Aron Houdini and Friends Grand Illusion Magic Show in Somerset in May.
Houdini is set to begin at 8 p.m. with the local Top 40 band Seven Turn to hit the stage beginning at 7 p.m.
So, mark those calendars for five-days of fun at the Rowan County Fair. The event will take place at the Jaycees Fairgrounds Aug. 12 through 16 with admission set at $3 each day and includes all the shows and entertainment.
