Charlie’s Angels Star Dies Aged 50
HOLLYWOOD actor and comedian Bernie Mac, who starred in Ocean’s 11 and Charlie’s Angels, died yesterday from pneumonia.
Mac, 50, was being treated in hospital in his native Chicago.
The star previously suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease, but had been in remission since 2005.
Last month, Mac’s crude brand of comedy caused him to be heckled at a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Toward the end of a 10-minute stand-up routine, Mac joked about the menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used crude language.
Mac started his comedy career at age eight, with a stand-up performance at a church dinner.
In 1977, at age 20, he took his act to comedy clubs in Chicago.
His film career started with a small role as a club doorman in the Damon Wayans’ movie Mo’ Money in 1992.
He went on to star in the Oceans series of hit films with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, and Charlie’s Angel: Full Throttle.
He also appeared in box office hit Guess Who?, Bad Santa and Transformers.
