pacificUV's Long-Awaited Sophomore Full-Length Album, "Longplay 2," Met With Critical Praise: Band Launches First Music Video From the Album

It's no easy task to follow up a debut album that Rolling Stone called "a masterpiece" (2003's "pacificUV"), but pacificUV's eagerly anticipated sophomore full-length, arriving in the form of an aural painkiller called "longplay 2" (released April 2008 on WARM), is raking in glowing reviews from the likes of NPR ("atmospheric space-rock... deftly and beautifully orchestrated"), Pitchfork ("7.9, a welcoming security blanket for the winter's thaw") and Alternative Press ("4/5 stars... a symphonic sense of purpose").

The first music video from the album -- a stunning collage shot on Super 8 film for the piano and string-laden album closer, "Ljiv" -- launches today exclusively on pacificUV.com.

pacificUV broke a long silence with the release of "longplay 2," an album separated by five years and 2,500 miles from its self-titled debut, "pacificUV." Strangely, despite that distance in years and miles, and with changes in personnel along the way, the textured, languid laments that the band is known and loved for survived intact. While the haze and moody drone of their debut is echoed here, a more abrasive, sinister element has seeped into the mix. Lyrically, there's something added too, with words inspired by Tom McCarthy's acclaimed novel, "Remainder," that explore themes such as our memories, our attempts to relive them, and their authenticity.

About pacificUV: Hailing from Athens, Georgia, pacificUV formed in 1998 under the auspices of Clay Jordan and Howard Hudson. Almost immediately after the duo began mixing song ideas together, drummer and keyboardist Lucas Jensen dove into the mix and the trio began honing their sound and planning their debut album. Although the band practically imploded while recording, the album that emerged, "pacificUV," garnered critical praise from all corners of the music world, including Rolling Stone. After an exhaustive tour supporting the album, co-founders Clay Jordan and Howard Hudson amicably split as recording for "EP" was underway. Jordan, who was now the sole remaining member of pacificUV, decided to relocate from Athens to Portland, OR. In April of 2008, Jordan and his new band mates (Mike Irwin on keyboards, Kevin Davis on guitar and drones, and Jesse Robert W on drums) released "longplay 2."
