Play Lets Teens Take Control

August 18, 2008

YOUNGSTERS in the region are being encouraged to take control of their sexual health.

Members of the organisation Teenage Kicks have worked with Newcastle City Council’s Arts Development team to develop Sex, Drugs and the Town Moor, a play about drinking and risky sexual behaviour.

Youngsters from Newcastle today took part in an interactive play where they had the power to decide what happened next.

The production at

Galafield Youth Centre, Newbiggin Hall, allowed the audience to take control of the drama by going onstage and taking over from the actors, or by suggesting what the actors should do.

The aim of the scheme was to raise awareness of how drugs and alcohol can affect the choices young people make.

The production was written and directed by local writer Emma Roxburgh, and stars local actors Lauren Kellegher, 19, Sophie Atkinson, 19, and Dean Logan, 21.
