Cinema Fans Feel the Force

August 20, 2008

Characters from the classic Star Wars films touched down in Swansea to mark the opening of new animated film The Clone Wars – the latest in the series.

It opened on Friday at the Odeon, which is where Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker chose to visit – and raised money for children’s charity the NSPCC in the process.

General manager Alex Jones said the event was part of the cinema chain’s Fanatical About Film summer, and the children were encouraged to dress as their favourite Star Wars character.

And just like in the films, Darth Vader’s plans for Swansea domination came to an end when a group of his trusty Storm Troopers were ambushed by rebel forces – on the M4.

Mr Jones said: “We were going to have another 15 Storm Troopers but they didn’t arrive until 8pm because their coach had broken down on the M4 while they were in full costume.

“This must have been quite a sight for passing motorists.”

This weekend the cinema is going Abba crazy with special sing- along subtitled screenings of hit film Mamma Mia!
