GEORGETOWN, Ky., Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Emmy-winning actress Doris Roberts and broadcast journalist Lisa Ling will be the featured keynote speakers for the upcoming 12th annual In the Interest of Women: A forum for the Women of Kentucky, presented by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK).
The 2008 conference will be held in Louisville at the Galt House East on October 20th and in Lexington at the Lexington Center on October 21st.
Roberts, the mother of primetime comedy is best known as the character Marie Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond, which she reportedly beat out 100 other actresses to land the role. She is a five time Emmy award winner and has appeared in multiple movie and television programs.
Ling, best known as a co-host on The View (1999-2002), is the host of the National Geographic Channel's Explorer, contributing reporter on Channel One News (an in-school television news program), and is a special correspondent for the Oprah Show and CNN. She was Channel One's youngest news anchor at 18 and covered war assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan. She recently took a position in July as a contributing journalist on Nightline.
Ms. Roberts has found time outside of the entertainment limelight to represent the U. S. State Department as an Ambassador for Youth. She is also an active supporter of the charities Children Affected by AIDS and Puppies Behind Bars, the latter of which creates a new sense of humanity for prison inmates by providing them with pets and a sense of normal responsibility. Her thoroughly honest account about life, motherhood, marriage, and working in and out of the spotlight has been captured on the written pages of her best-selling book Are You Hungry, Dear? Life, Laughs and Lasagna.
Ling took the broadcast journalism world by storm as the first female host of the National Geographic Explorer program, which gave her the opportunity to span the globe and report on issues, people, and organizations that didn't always make headlines with mainstream news outlets. She also co-authored the book entitled Mother, Daughter, Sister, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood, which focuses on the exploration of all things female, including a woman's connection with herself, her family, with members of her community, and other women.
In the Interest of Women is a day-long conference sponsored by TMMK, created especially for women and includes a breakfast juice and coffee bar, healthy morning snack, lunch, two keynote addresses and ample opportunity to network. Additionally, conference attendees select four workshops from a slate of ten options.
The conference begins at 7:45 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m. Registration is $90 per person.
