David Brent – Ricky Gervais’ character in the hit series The Office failed to inspire most staff with his self-styled philosophy, music and gags. Most simply cringed in disbelief.

Brian Clough – legendary Nottingham Forest guv’nor with management style likened to that of a dictator. On one occasion he asked a player if he’d ever been punched in the stomach. When the player said ‘no’, Clough punched him and said ‘now you have.’.

Gordon Ramsay – the foul-mouthed chef has been voted television’s biggest bully by numerous polls and is an honorary member of the Britain’s Most Unbearable Bosses club.

Montgomery Burns – The Simpsons’ tycoon and chairman and chief executive of Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and Homer’s boss. He has been known to encourage his workers to finish their lunches quickly by whipping them.
