Budget Tops School Board Agenda

What: Guilford County Board of Education meeting

When: 6 p.m. today

Where: 712 N. Eugene St., Greensboro

On TV: Cable Channel 2 airs the meeting live with replays at 1 and 7 p.m. the next day and at 1 p.m. the Saturday after the meeting.

What’s going on? Passing the budget tops the agenda. The board is trying to finalize an estimated $644 million budget to run the district for the 2008-09 school year, which began Tuesday. Officials have been looking at how to cover a $2.4 million shortfall in state and county funding while still phasing in raises for classified employees.

The board also will receive updates on the first day of school and construction projects, and hear a report on the district’s prekindergarten program.
