Jenkinson Work Wins Praise

Bismarck State College Gannon Gallery opens with an exhibit of recent paintings and a series of miniatures by New Hampshire artist Elizabeth Austin. Opening reception is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the BSC library.

Austin grew up in Chicago and has lived in Italy and France. She has exhibited in several galleries in Paris and the U.S., and had a piece in a Christie’s benefit for the New York City Opera. She also started a series of performance art pieces and toured the United States as a solo artist for 10 years.

Austin has experimented with transparency and light refraction and reflection, which she incorporates into her pieces.

Jeremy Greenberg, author of “Relative Discomfort: The Family Survival Guide,” will be at Barnes and Noble in Bismarck on Thursday to sign copies of his book.

A stand-up comedian, columnist and author, Greenberg writes a column entitled “Eastside: Center of the Universe,” which celebrates the elevated status of suburban Seattle

He lives with his family in Kirkland, Wash.

The Central Dakota Humane Society is holding its annual Shaggy Shuffle walk at the Capitol grounds on Sept. 14. Registration will begin at 1 p.m., and the walk will start at 2 p.m.

There will be food, music and other entertainment. Incentive awards will be given out for each level of money raised and door prizes also will be awarded.

Walkers will be able to choose the length of the route they walk – a two-mile walk or a 1/2-mile walk. Contests will be held and prizes awarded for the youngest, oldest, largest and smallest pet.

Clay Jenkinson’s “Message on the Wind” has been recommended in the print and online edition of Forbes Magazine.

In his column, publisher Rich Kaarlgard praises the work.

Jenkinson, scholar and director of The Dakota Institute of the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation, is doing the final editing of “When the Landscape is Quiet Again: The Legacy of Art Link,” a documentary film that will be shown on Prairie Public Television in October.

Preview screenings of the Link documentary are planned for Sept. 25 in Bismarck and Sept. 29 in Fargo. A special preview of the film is being shown at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Alexander Public School during the community’s annual Old Settlers Days. Weekend digest
