Repost This

The Blow Monkeys made a name for themselves in the 1980s, largely down to the charismatic presence of lead singer Dr Robert.

Their debut album, Limping For A Generation was released in 1984.

Commercial success followed in 1986, when Digging Your Scene, reached the Top 20, taken from second album Animal Magic.

Other tracks included Wicked Ways and It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way.

You Don’t Own Me, meanwhile, was used on the platinum-selling soundtrack to the film Dirty Dancing.

The band folded in 1990 and Dr Robert went on to pursue a solo career.

This year sees the band reunited with their first new album in 18 years – Devil’s Tavern.

The Blow Monkeys will play at The Sugarmill in Hanley on Monday, September 1. Doors open 7.30pm. For tickets, call 01159 454 593 or 01782 206000.
