Tehran, 31 August: Deputy Foreign Minister Alireza Sheykh-Attar said on Sunday [31 August] that the media in Iran and Iraq shoulder grave responsibility in reflecting the realities and making both nations further acquainted about the commonalties between the two neighbours.

In a meeting with a delegation from the Iraqi media in Tehran, Attar said that Iran has placed expansion of relations with its neighbours on its agenda, according to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Such ties could be further broadened through media cooperation and organizing joint panel discussions and seminars, he noted.

Cultural, religious and historical commonalties coupled with hundreds of kilometres of land and sea borders and the location of holy shrines in both countries have created suitable grounds for expansion and consolidation of such ties, he pointed out.

The Iraqi media delegation thanked Iran for the hospitality extended to Iraqi refugees during the Saddam era and voiced the readiness of Iraqi media to bolster cooperation with Iranian media.

The Iraqi media delegation is in Iran to become acquainted with the achievements and success of the sector.
