Voicing an Appeal for Accent Help

September 2, 2008

A BIRMINGHAM actor is appealing to the city’s Irish community to help him find the right accent for his latest play.

Lozells-born Ken Meeson, who is treading the boards in a production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane in October, is desperately seeking someone from the west of Ireland to master an authentic Irish lilt.

The recycling manager said: “I’m going to give it my best shot. I just need to meet up with someone and go through the script with them.

“It makes a big difference to people’s enjoyment of the play if the accent is right.”

The Beauty Queen of Leenane scooped four prestige Tony theatre awards, including best actress and best director, following a run on Broadway.

Tickets for the play, which runs from October 15 to 25 at the Priory Theatre, in Kenilworth, cost pounds 8.
