Laugh Out Loud at Bailies
World-class comedy is coming to Christchurch. More specifically, it is coming to the Bailies bar in Cathedral Square.
“One of the comedians who will be performing pointed out to us earlier this year that there is no comedy venue in Christchurch, so we thought we’d do something about it,” Bailies owner Lynne O’Keeefe says.
“People can come in and have a meal, a drink and be entertained with some good old Kiwi humour by some of New Zealand’s best stand- up comedians. They’ll be on stage in the Scott Room on the first Thursday and Friday of each month, from October through to December.”
“It will be a great opportunity to get together with a group of friends, and it’s something really different for companies to do for their end-of-year or Christmas function. Just remember that seats are limited so it pays to book early.”
Kick-starting the comedy series on October 2-3 are two of the country’s hottest comedians. Dai Henwood, who has starred in TV2′s Pulp Comedy and, more, recently C4′s Roll the Dai, headlines the show.
Supporting him is Steve Wrigley, winner of the 2008 Billy T Awards.
Looking ahead to November, Bailies welcomes “Westie” Ewen Gilmour and Comedy Circuit legend Vaughan King, while Brendhan Lovegrove and Ben Hurley, both of whom have numerous international performances to their credit, will take the stage in December.
This Sunday, however, it will be dads who are taking centre stage, as they celebrate Father’s Day.
“Father’s Day is a great opportunity to spend some time with your dad and bring him in to Bailies for a drink or for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
“You can eat any time here, from 9.30am until late into the night. The breakfast menu runs until 2pm; the lunch and dinner menu runs from 12pm to 9pm; and the snack menu is available any time, so there are always plenty of options to choose from during the week or on the weekend.”
Friendly staff, an eclectic collection of memorabilia and the overall historical charm of Bailies keep customers coming back time and time again, O’Keefe says.
“Warners Hotel is temporarily closed while undergoing redevelopment, but Bailies is still open and still going strong, with the same, welcoming atmosphere that people have always loved.”
