The Dallas Zoo said the world's oldest captive gorilla, a 55-year-old female, has died of an inoperable stomach tumor.
Zoo officials said the gorilla, Jenny, had recently experienced difficulty eating and drinking as a result of the tumor, the Dallas Morning News reported Friday.
The gorilla, who had been with the zoo since 1957 and celebrated her 55th birthday in May, died one month after Hercules, a 43-year-old male silverback gorilla, died of cardiac arrest at the zoo.
Officials said a standard necropsy and histopathology will be carried out on Jenny's body.
