Image Entertainment Acquires Exclusive U.S. Distribution Rights to “The Edge of Love” at Toronto International Film Festival
Image Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: DISK), a leading independent licensee, producer and distributor of home entertainment programming in North America, announced today at the Toronto International Film Festival that it has acquired from CT1 Holdings, LLC all U.S. rights (except theatrical) to “The Edge of Love,” John Maybury’s acclaimed biopic of famed poet Dylan Thomas. Knightley is currently at the Toronto International Film Festival for “The Dutchess.”
“The Edge of Love” stars Academy Award(R)-nominated actress Keira Knightley (“Pirates of the Caribbean,”"Pride & Prejudice,”"Love Actually,”"Star Wars: Episode I”), Sienna Miller (“Stardust,”"Camille,”"Factory Girl”), Golden Globe-nominated actor Cillian Murphy (“Sunshine,”"Batman Begins”) and Matthew Rhys (“Love And Other Disasters”).
The film is slated for theatrical release the first quarter of 2009. The screenplay was written by Sharman MacDonald (Knightley’s mother) and inspired by famed poet Dylan Thomas’ real-life love letters sent to his wife during WWII.
A beautifully drawn love story, the film revolves around two feisty, free-spirited women, Caitlin Thomas (Miller) and Vera Killick (Knightley); Vera’s husband, William Killick (Murphy); and the brilliant, charismatic poet Dylan Thomas (Rhys) who loves both women. Broken promises, passion, betrayal, the shadow of war and the constant threat of imminent death push the protagonists to “The Edge of Love.” The story explores the bohemian underworld of war-torn London and the intimate complexities of two young couples whose lives and loves become dangerously intertwined.
“We are very pleased to be releasing this critically acclaimed film here in the U.S.,” said Bill Bromiley, Chief Acquisitions Officer of Image Entertainment. “The accomplished cast and creative team behind the film have done an extraordinary job in bringing this compelling and emotional story to life.”
“The Edge of Love” is directed by award-winning John Maybury (“Love Is the Devil,”"The Jacket”) and produced by Rebekah Gilbertson and Sarah Radclyffe. The screenplay is by Sharman MacDonald. Director of photography Jonathan Freeman (“Hollywoodland,”"Rome”), Academy Award(R)-nominated costume designer April Ferry (“Southland Tales,”"Donnie Darko”), production designer Alan MacDonald (“The Queen,”"Love Is the Devil”) and editor Emma Hickox (“Becoming Jane,”"Kinky Boots”), with music by Angelo Badalamenti (“Twin Peaks,”"Wild at Heart,”"Mulholland Drive,”"A Very Long Engagement”).
The deal was negotiated by Wendy Rutland, managing director of Image Entertainment UK.
