Kyrgyz Leader Orders Reform of National TV, Radio Corporation
Text of report by state-owned Kyrgyz Television 1 on 5 September
President Kurmanbek Bakiyev has signed a decree on some measures to reform the National TV and Radio Corporation of Kyrgyzstan.
In line with the Kyrgyz law on TV and radio broadcasting; in order to increase the effectiveness of the work of the National TV and Radio Corporation of Kyrgyzstan and other state TV and radio broadcasting agencies; and in order to meet to a fuller extent the needs of the country’s citizens in terms of objective, comprehensive information, I decree:
1. The suggestions of the National TV and Radio Corporation shall be approved: The Asankhan Dzhumakhmatov State Academic Symphonic Orchestra, the Chamber Choir and the Uchur TV theatre shall be removed from the corporation to be brought under the Culture and Information Ministry; the Chuy, Naryn, Dzhalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Batken and Talas regional TV companies shall be removed from the corporation to be brought under the Culture and Information Ministry, leaving the corporation the roles of coordinating nationwide coverage of events in the country and giving methodological advice and practical assistance to these TV companies.
2. The government of Kyrgyzstan shall resolve, in the established procedure, the organizing, financial and other issues resulting from this decree and bring its decisions into compliance with this decree.
3. The attached charter of the Corporation shall be approved.
4. The director-general of the National TV and Radio Corporation has a month to determine, in the established procedure and in coordination with the government, the maximum size of staff for the corporation and shall submit its report to the president of Kyrgyzstan for approval.
