Newport Media Signs Software License Agreement With Qualcomm
Newport Media, a fabless semiconductor company, has signed a commercial software license agreement with Qualcomm, a provider of digital wireless telecommunications products.
Under the terms of the agreement, Newport Media will license Qualcomm’s MediaFLO service layer client software, enabling Newport Media to integrate the software into its FLO application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and protocol stack for MediaFLO device manufacturers. In September of 2006 Newport Media and Qualcomm had previously entered into a patent agreement covering Newport Media’s ASICs.
Mohy Abdelgany, president and CEO of Newport Media, said: “This agreement demonstrates Newport Media’s commitment to delivering full-featured mobile broadcast solutions that meet the demands of our customers. We can now offer our customers a complete FLO ASIC and software solution, while speeding our time-to-market.”
Mike Coad, vice president of partner relations for MediaFLO technologies at Qualcomm, said: “Collaborating with Newport Media serves as an opportunity to highlight a growing list of products and services available on the MediaFLO platform. We’re pleased that the agreement further establishes MediaFLO as an open mobile broadcast standard and strengthens our global ecosystem.”
