PlayPhone and National Geographic Captivate Mobile Users
The world's most exciting and fascinating video, images and largest collection of world music from National Geographic will soon be available to mobile consumers. PlayPhone, Inc. (www.playphone.com), which operates the largest network of mobile content destinations in North America, announced today that it has struck a deal to build a new mobile storefront for National Geographic and to license National Geographic's content library for mobile distribution throughout its network of sites. This new online destination, National Geographic Mobile, will feature the Society's award-winning content in the form of video, ringtones, wallpapers, games and more.
"National Geographic's vast collection of amazing photographs has been compiled throughout more than a century of the Society's history," said Ron Czerny, founder and chief executive officer of PlayPhone. "PlayPhone is honored to partner with National Geographic to operate its mobile storefront and deliver this offering to mobile users."
National Geographic's collection is one of the most comprehensive and unique archives of video, photographic images and music in the world. It contains more than 10.5 million photographs, including the Society's hallmark images of culture, adventure, and nature, as well as renowned international artists from over 100 musical genres. New content releases will be exclusively available on the National Geographic Mobile and PlayPhone (www.playphone.com) sites for a period of time, with content availability beginning later this month.
"PlayPhone has a terrific track record in creating mobile destination sites for leading entertainment and media brands," said Paul Levine, senior vice president, Extended Platforms Group for National Geographic Ventures, which includes National Geographic's Mobile, Maps and Games businesses. "National Geographic is pleased to collaborate with a partner with so much experience in building, operating and marketing successful mobile sites."
The partnership with PlayPhone follows National Geographic's launch of its mobile division. "PlayPhone provides an incredible opportunity to deliver National Geographic's captivating video, images and sounds to the small screen," said Aaron Kohn, General Manager, National Geographic Mobile.
PlayPhone gives consumers access to an exciting and exclusive mobile content catalog spanning audio, images, video and game content from leading music labels and artists, game publishers, and media and entertainment companies.
