Rare Chance for Fans ; Jazz

September 12, 2008

By Alan Cross

TWO of the most successful and gifted young musicians in Birmingham make rare appearances in the city this week.

At Symphony Hall at 5.30pm today trumpeter Bryan Corbett leads his band. Corbett has built up a formidable reputation both nationally and internationally with his heady and sophisticated arrangements and original compositions.

Born and educated in Hereford, he arrived in Birmingham in 1996 and soon took up residency at the much missed Ty’s Jazz club on Stratford Road where he supervised the music.

The equally dazzling and acclaimed Chris Bowden will front the Rehab All Stars at Bearwood Corks on Thursday.

Saxophonist Bowden has achieved greater recognition than Corbett with his releases on leading labels and his role with the legendary Herbaliser and Ninja Tunes.

Rehab has released a series of great albums featuring Edgar Macias and Tom Hill.

Thursday’s show will feature an ever changing line up of quality musicians exploring all jazz genres.
