Guillemots’ Gigbeth Date

September 16, 2008

Critically-acclaimed Birmingham band Guillemots are set to perform at this year’s Gigbeth music festival next month.

The quirky indie band, who were nominated at the Brits Awards last year, will be one of the headline bands playing at the event focused around the Digbeth area of the city.

The band’s debut album Through the Windowpane was also nominated for a Mercury Prize, underlining their status as one of the country’s top emerging pop acts.

Gigbeth, which is now in its second year, will take place between Thursday, November 6, and Saturday, November 8.

More than ten venues in the area will be used, including a main outdoor stage at Millennium Point, to highlight the best musical talent in the city.

Last year’s three-day festival featured hundreds of performers covering music genres from indie, jazz, soul, gospel, hip hop, drum & bass to bhangra and classical. Founder and chief organiser Clare Edwards said this year’s event was more focused in scale in order to create a “festival buzz”.
