Dana to Sing With Miami Band
By BRENDAN McDAID
EUROVISION legend Dana will tonight make history when she joins Ireland’s biggest ever showband The Miami on stage to raise funds for Londonderry charity Children In Crossfire.
The reformed group, featuring original members Stephen Travers, Des Lee and Ray Millar will play to a sold-out crowd at the Grand Opera House this evening, before embarking on a tour which will see them arrive at the Millennium Forum later this year.
The band’s new members include talented musicians, Horslips’ Johnny Fean, Dana’s brother Gerry Brown and showband veteran Barry Woods.
Derry-born singer Dana’s success ran parallel to that of the Miami in the early 1970′s after winning the Eurovision Song Contest with All Kinds Of Everything as an 18-year-old in 1970.
Speaking ahead of joining the band on stage at Belfast tonight, she recalled her fond memories of meeting Fran O’Toole and becoming friends.
“I knew Fran O’Toole” she recalled. “The first big TV thing he did was as my special guest and we did a series together on RTE and struck up a real friendship and I would have met the boys at that time.
“I got to know them all but I got to know Fran best. At that time they were so unique in the business.”
