Secularist Point of View Left Me Cold
I write to commend Stephen Owen for his letter Teach evolution and Intelligent Design, Points of view, September 13, and support his well-marshalled points in answering secularist and humanist arguments for insulating mainstream national life from the influence of religious belief.
Our laws, standards of behaviour and majority of institutions, for example schools, are founded and maintained on Christian doctrine and the teaching of Jesus Christ.
To imply, as some of your correspondents have done, that our country would be a better place if Christianity were sanitised and quietly strangled out of public life, is not only unwise but positively chilling in its implications.
