Mozes (www.mozes.com), the service that connects people to what they love from their mobile phones, announced today that Vice President of Music Industry Sales Chris Stacey is one of 53 music industry experts who will gather today in Nashville as part of the 20th class of Leadership Music, a program that brings together prominent executives to discuss topics and issues impacting the industry.
Stacey will join a group that includes industry thought leaders, from executives at Capitol Records Nashville, Warner Music Group and the Grand Ole Opry, to market experts at Bank of America, Vanderbilt University and Loeb & Loeb, LLP. Notable class members also include rock and roll Hall of Fame artist Brenda Lee, "60 Minutes" and CMT executive John Hamlin and Linda Bloss-Baum, who is the vice president of public policy and government relations at Warner Music Group. Apple founder Steve Wozniak is also among those in the Leadership Music class of 2009.
A music industry veteran and artist manager, Chris Stacey was formerly Senior Vice President of Promotion and Artist Development for Universal Music Group's Mercury Nashville record label. Chris has worked with top tier artists such as: Shania Twain, Toby Keith and Terri Clark. He was also a founding member of the highly successful Lost Highway record label.
Later, he formed his own company, Vector Promotions, a prominent independent radio promotion company representing Maroon 5, Bob Dylan, David Gray, Joss Stone, Los Lonely Boys, Bruce Hornsby, and others. In 2005 Chris founded Hurricane Interactive Promotions (HIP), one of the first mobile marketing companies specializing in the music business. HIP was acquired by Mozes in January 2008.
"Being chosen for the Leadership Music program is a tremendous personal honor," says Stacey. "I look forward to providing expertise on the impact and possibilities of mobile marketing for the industry, in addition to gaining incredible insights from such an esteemed class that I can put to work at Mozes."
This year's Leadership Music sessions will address topics including songwriting/publishing, artist management, studio/audio, record company management, broadcast/media and touring. More than 300 people applied for spots in the nine-month long program, which kicks off with an orientation program and alumni reception this week, and continues with a two-day retreat in October followed by monthly sessions until May, when another two-day retreat closes the program.
"We are all extremely proud of Chris, whose passion for music has been instrumental in building Mozes' reputation," said CEO Dorrian Porter. "His participation in Leadership Music indicates how important mobile marketing is to the future of the industry, and we look forward to learning from his experience there."
