Hills Are Alive With My Favourite Things

September 23, 2008

THURSDAY sees the start in Wellington of one of the most popular family musicals of all time.

The Sound of Music has gone from book to musical to movie and back to musical form, with the latest version on at Wellington’s Opera House from this Thursday till October 11.

The film is a perennial favourite and the soundtrack was New Zealand’s biggest selling record for years, with songs such as My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi and Climb Every Mountain just some of fans of the show’s favourite things.

Michael Highsted, the executive producer for Wellington Musical Theatre which is putting the show on in Wellington, says it is currently playing in London where it has been produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian.

“The Wellington production features sets and costumes especially imported from Los Angeles for the occasion, and this production of one of the world’s most popular musicals will astonish.”

The show, which also features the Vector Wellington Orchestra, is being directed by Grant Meese, who recently directed WMT’s production of Cats.
