People – Hanks Too Tired to Party at HBO Emmy Soiree
Accepting hugs left and right and clutching his best miniseries trophy for HBO’s “John Adams,” Tom Hanks made one thing clear at the premium cable network’s packed Emmy after-party: He’s not a partier.
“It’s a school night. This is all a bit of a chore, honestly,” Hanks told The Associated Press late Sunday night .
We’re really glad the series won. Great cast, killer crew. … But I gotta be at work at 6 a.m. tomorrow,” he said. “I’ve got about 15 minutes left in me.
Hanks, an executive producer on the historical drama, attended the outdoor bash at West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center with his wife, Rita Wilson .
HBO had a lot to celebrate at the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, with a leading 26 trophies.
Guests included Jon Voight , Kevin Spacey , Laura Dern , Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, Don Rickles and the cast of “Entourage.”
For many Emmy guests, the first stop on the night’s party trail was the Governors Ball, held across the street from the Nokia Theatre at the downtown Los Angeles Convention Center.
Paul Giamatti , Glenn Close and Alec Baldwin were among those who brought golden dates to the ball .
Rock Hall nominees announced
Rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson , Metallica, Run-DMC and The Stooges are among the nominees for the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class.
For the first time in 12 years, the ceremony will be held April 4 in Cleveland, Ohio, home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, according to rollingstone.com.
Other nominees include Jeff Beck , Chic , War , Little Anthony and the Imperials and Bobby Womack .
Tickets for the ceremony – which will be held at Cleveland’s Public Hall – will be made available to the public, a Hall of Fame first.
Guitar greats profiled on film
In the middle of the rock documentary “It Might Get Loud,” Jimmy Page picks up a Les Paul and tears into “Whole Lotta Love” while the Edge and Jack White watch, slack-jawed.
“They look just like 13-year-old boys,” says director Davis Guggenheim . “They were both like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s how he did it,’” he told rollingstone.com.
The movie – which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 5 and will get a theatrical release next year – chronicles the pan- generational trio’s lives in music and the relationship that each of them has to the guitar.
“It Might Get Loud” is the brainchild of Guggenheim, who directed the Academy Award-winning “An Inconvenient Truth,” and “Dark Knight” producer Thomas Tull .
