Tiger Brings Some Magic to the Table

The Tiger Who Came To Tea Regent Theatre, Hanley

LITTLE Sophie and her mummy and daddy are busy enjoying their usual early morning chaos unaware of the magical day that lies ahead.

The title of the story gives it all away, but this doesn’t stop the element of surprise from filling the minds of youngsters as the doorbell of the storybook house continues to ring.

First it’s daddy who’s left his key. Then it’s the milkman who brings some milk. Then the rather short-sighted postman arrives to bring Sophie a cuddly kitten from her uncle and then, as the clock strikes four, a rather unusual guest makes his way in.

Written by David Wood and based on the book by Judith Kerr, The Tiger Who Came To Tea is a wonderful musical play for young children who get to sing-a-long to catchy tunes and dance with the characters as they entertain from the stage.

Educational as well, they also get to help mummy and Sophie as they count the time of the kitchen clock on the wall, stopping at certain times of the day to answer the door.

The play only asks for a small cast but Abbey Norman (Sophie), Devon Black (mummy) and Alan Atkins (daddy) gave their all to accentuating the characters and making the audience have a really good time as the day descends into comic mayhem.

At just under the hour mark it is perfect entertainment for children who are as much involved in the story as the characters themselves.

There’s also plenty to keep the older ones entertained as they try to decipher how all the food and drink the Tiger gobbles up disappears in front of their very eyes.

Big and proud the Tiger is instantly loveable as he hides from Sophie and mummy each time they answer the door and dances to Tigerobics on the radio.

This play is funny, light-hearted, magical and engaging and is well worth a look for any youngsters wanting to stretch their imagination.

The Tiger Who Came To Tea can be seen at The Regent Theatre today at 10.30am and 1.30pm and tomorrow at 10.30am and 12.30pm.
