Dark Mantra Cruise into Semi-Finals

City bands produced a hat-trick in round five of the 27th annual Rock Open competition.

The power rock trio Dark Mantra pipped fellow Lincoln band Cruise Control to take their place in the semi-finals on October 10.

Singer and guitarist Alex Sharp (29) said that the act had not yet celebrated its first year together so they were all delighted with the result.

He said: "When we are not playing concerts we rehearse in a dark and dusty garage where we write and play all our own compositions."

Dark Mantra now join fellow city musicians The Satisfaction and Sevenday Week-end in the semi-finals at The Black Beauty in Bottesford.

City solo artist Rockin' Bob will make his bid in the last heat next Thursday.
