NEW YORK, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Newsweek's Fourth Annual "Women & Leadership" Conference will be held Tuesday, October 7, with ABC's Barbara Walters as the luncheon keynote speaker. The conference is part of Newsweek's ongoing "Leadership for the 21st Century" series. It will be held at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
"Our Women and Leadership project has been an important and inspiring franchise for Newsweek. For four years we've explored what it takes for women to rise to positions of power, and the lessons they've learned along the way," says Newsweek Director of Special Projects Alexis Gelber. "And this year, with two women in such prominent roles in national politics -- Hillary Clinton and Gov. Sarah Palin, a conference guest last year -- we are proud to sponsor a day of discussion at this crucial moment in the campaign."
The first panel, "Politics and Power," will address the theme of women, power and politics. It will be moderated by Claire Shipman, Senior National Correspondent for ABC News. Panelists are: Michelle D. Bernard, President and CEO, Independent Women's Forum; Bay Buchanan, President of The American Cause and political commentator on CNN; Rosario Dawson, actress and cofounder of VotoLatino; and Dee Dee Myers, former White House Press Secretary and author of "Why Women Should Rule the World."
The second panel, "Power and the Workplace," will examine the stereotypes and challenges of female leaders. It will be moderated by Julie Chen, co-anchor of "The Early Show" on CBS. Panelists are: Tina Brown, author and editor; Lisa Caputo, Chairman and CEO of Women & Co.; Helene Gayle, physician and President and CEO of CARE; and Lauren Zalaznick, President of NBC Universal Women and Lifestyle Entertainment Networks.
Following the panel discussions, Anna Quindlen, Newsweek contributor, Pulitizer Prize winner and Chair of the Barnard Board of Trustees, will moderate a Q&A discussion with Tony- and Emmy Award-winning actress Cynthia Nixon.
