There’s Been Another Murder, STV, Sunday

By Paul English

THE luvvies queued like riot police to say nice, benign things about wur ain Taggart to mark its silver anniversary.

Funny no one mentioned that there's more tension shopping on QVC than there is in the cop show's current Scooby-Doo 45-minute format.

As a devotee of the classic Taggart three-parter, I can let stv away with certain things, such as an executive calling Glasgow "exotic" and Stephen Jardine's excited chat about "ingenious" plots - I'll even forgive reruns of Annette Crosbie with her kitoff.

But as long as ITV trot out the "viewers have shorter attention spans" excuse for 45-minute whodunnits while showing Place of Execution over three weeks, I smell a red herring.
