Music: SPIN IT ; The BEST Releases of the Week

The Vortex – Dirty Soul Cool, upbeat, and instantly infectious, this track, is very much in the Hacienda dance groove of Oasis, Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses. Yet there are sparks of originality that make this the sound of now, rather than vintage Madchester, and rescues them from being imitators.

It puts them firmly on their own footing as another in a long line of bands of which Manchester can be proud.

Estelle – Pretty Please (love me) SUPERB old-school soul music pours out of every pore of London’s lovely Estelle. This song captures the essence of 60s Tamla while bringing something new to the mix. This ensures a freshness and a relevance that will delight her many fans, while winning her new fans at every turn.
