Canwest Announces Landmark On Demand Deal With Rogers
For the first time in Canada, television viewers will have free access to the biggest slate of their favourite first-run Global and E! network shows On Demand from Rogers.
A landmark agreement between Canwest and Rogers will make more than 60 hours of network programming available at any time through Rogers On Demand (Channel 100) with shows becoming available from October 15, 2008. Viewers will have access to Canada's #1 show, HOUSE as well as primetime favourites HEROES, THE OFFICE, 24, THE GUARD, BONES, PRISON BREAK, FAMILY GUY and E! TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY. The line up will also include some of the hottest new shows like KNIGHT RIDER and MY OWN WORST ENEMY.
Daytime hits THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and DAYS OF OUR LIVES will also be made available to loyal fans across the country.
"As with everything we do, it's all about our audience," said Barbara Williams, EVP Content, Canwest Broadcasting. "Now, Global and E! viewers don't have to miss a minute of their favourite shows. This partnership with Rogers is yet another example of Canwest continuing to provide our audiences with the most innovative program delivery in addition to the traditional schedule."
"This is the holy grail of On Demand," commented David Purdy, Vice President, General Manager of Television, Rogers Cable Communications. "Our customers have long been telling us that primetime On Demand is what they want, and this deal with Canwest allows us to give them the very best of the genre."
Today's announcement represents another step in Canwest's strategy to provide content to Canadians when they want it and on the platform that they want. Already, three Canwest specialty channels - HGTV, FOOD NETWORK and NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL - are available On Demand from Rogers.
Under the agreement, Global and E! programming will be available for viewing after their original airdate at no extra charge to Rogers Digital Cable customers. This marks the first time a full slate of primetime network shows will be available On Demand in Canada.
