Malagasy Leader Concludes Visit to Tanzania
Excerpt from report by state-owned TBC (Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation) television on 9 October
[Presenter] The Malagasy and Tanzanian governments have signed agreements that will enable exchange of information and expertise in areas of business, tourism, communication, defence and security, as well as establishment of permanent cooperation committees between the two countries.
[Reporter] Malagasy President Marc Ravalomanana used the opportunity to address the media before concluding his visit to the country to outline various challenges that he learned while on the visit.
[Ravalomanana, in english with voice over in swahili] We can, together, develop and improve our relationship because a lot of our goals correspond. I am so happy having visited Zanzibar island, and wildlife parks, especially in Manyara and Ngorongoro conservancy [both in northern Tanzania].
[Reporter] On his part, President Jakaya Kikwete saw off his guest, after completing his visit in the country. He also used the opportunity to emphasize the importance of boosting cooperation between the two countries.
[Kikwete, in english with voice over in swahili] As we were saying before, Madagascar and Tanzania have a long history of cooperation. Of importance are the agreements we have signed that need to be implemented because they are very important. [Passage omitted]
