Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Film Being Planned
Xinhua Media Entertainment and the state-run China Film Group reportedly are teaming up to bring a live-action version of "Mulan" to the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter said the movie about a young female Chinese warrior has an estimated budget of $30 million and will be among the first projects made under Xinhua and the China Film Group’s new partnership.
The Hollywood-China co-production with MoviePlus and Arclight is slated to start filming in China next spring, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.
"China Film and Xinhua came in with significant funding to make this a co-production when we met them at Cannes in May," Christopher Brough, head of MoviePlus Canada, told The Hollywood Reporter. "They liked that we were taking a Hollywood approach to a classic Chinese story."
The tale was previously told in the 1998 animated Disney movie "Mulan."
