Z-Wave Alliance ‘Cable Today and Tomorrow’ Exhibit During The Cable Center’s Cable Days Showcases the Benefits of Home Control Services for MSOs

October 16, 2008

The Z-Wave Alliance is proud to announce that it is participating in The Cable Center’s ‘Cable Today and Tomorrow’ exhibition to demonstrate the possibilities of an interoperable home Security, Monitoring and Automation (SMA) solution. The display showcases security, monitoring and automation products from multiple members of the Z-Wave Alliance operating together for an advanced home control experience.

“The Cable Center’s Cable Today and Tomorrow exhibit exemplifies the importance of technological innovation to the future success of the cable industry,” said Larry Satkowiak, president and chief executive officer of The Cable Center. “And we believe the Z-Wave Alliance’s SMA exhibit is a great example of the practical applications of such innovation.”

The solution set showcases leading devices from brand-name manufacturers all connected together over a home wireless network and displayed on TVs, PCs, and mobile phones for a personalized home security and control service. All home controls devices are connected and interoperate through Z-Wave, while remote IP cameras utilize a WiFi connection.

Devices include a Schlage connected door lock, GE lighting and appliance adapters, and Panasonic and SerComm IP cameras — all displayed and controllable via the multiple screens of a TV, PC, and mobile phone. Software from 4Home and Crayon Interface enable the multi-screen user interfaces, and 4Home’s Portal Server provides remote management and diagnostics for MSO technicians. The platform enables interactive control of home automation devices, automatic messaging to mobile devices, and remote access and control for the end-user from a browser UI or mobile phone.

“Home control services are very ‘sticky’ services that reduce churn and differentiate a broadband service offering — exactly what service providers need now,” noted Brad Kayton, chief operating officer of 4Home, Inc. “That is confirmed by the fact that five of the eight participants here are exhibiting home control solutions. However, Z-Wave is the only one that integrates a total SMA environment for security, monitoring, automation, energy management, and media control.”

The Z-Wave Alliance exhibit is being unveiled at The Cable Center’s ‘Cable Today and Tomorrow exhibit’ on October 16, 2008 during Cable Days, and will be on display until April 1, 2009.
