Zeta-Jones May Star in ‘Cleopatra’ Musical

Steven Soderbergh is in talks to direct a 3-D, live-action musical movie about Cleopatra, starring Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, Variety.com reported.

Zeta-Jones, who won an Oscar for her work in the big-screen musical "Chicago," previously collaborated with Soderbergh on the films "Ocean's Twelve" and "Traffic."

Variety.com said Soderbergh is talking to her about playing the iconic Egyptian queen in his planned film "Cleopatra." Australian actor Hugh Jackman is said to be in line to portray her love interest Marc Antony in the movie, which is to have music by the indie rock group Guided by Voices and a script by James Greer, the band's former bass player.

Jackman, who has starred in the "X-Men" franchise, won a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway musical "The Boy from Oz."

"Cleopatra" marks the first time Soderbergh will direct a movie musical.
