'Life By Design' Documentary Premieres at Danish Film Fest - 2008

Posted on: Tuesday, 4 November 2008, 18:00 CST

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Nov. 4/PRNewswire/ -- The Danish Film Fest -- http://www.danishfilmfest.com/ -- presents the premiere screening of Life By Design in the Spielberg Theatre at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood on November 6 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a post-screening Q&A panel discussion with Michael Sheridan, architect and expert in Nordic Modernism featured in Life By Design, the film's co-director Paul Alexander Juutilainen, Soren Holst Pedersen of PP Mobler Design, and creator Kim Thybro Nielsen.

Life By Design traces the rise of "Danish Modern" in the United States (including the chair made famous by John F. Kennedy), its subsequent fall and the resurgence of interest sparked by the use of Danish pieces to furnish the freshly renovated Museum of Modern Art in 2004. This is the untold story and provides the personal perspectives from those who were a major part of this design revolution.

The documentary is executive produced by Kim Nielsen, founder of the largest Danish-only furniture showrooms in the United States, dkVogue, produced by Judith Fernando and co-directed by award-winning filmmaker, Paul Alexander Juutilainen and Danish freelance journalist, Kent Dahl. Juutilainen's past credits include Herbert's Hippopotamus, his first feature documentary about the life in Southern California of philosopher and writer Herbert Marcuse. The film won awards internationally including an Emmy, Telly Award, CINDY Gold, the Gold Plaque at the Chicago International Film Festival, the Best Prize at the Vermont International Film Festival, and 12 other awards. Furthermore, Juutilainen was selected for the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the 1998 Cannes International Film Festival. His latest work includes several High Definition documentaries for PBS which were broadcast nationally.
