Platinum Blonde bassist Kenny MacLean, who recently released his third solo album, was found dead in his Toronto recording studio, friends said Tuesday.
The Toronto Star said the cause of the Scottish-Canadian musician's death is not yet known.
MacLean, who was in his early 50s, was discovered dead by his sister Pamela in the bathroom of his studio, which also featured living quarters, lying on the floor, holding a toothbrush with the water running, the Star said.
The musician performed Friday night at a release party for his new CD Completely
at the Mod Club. He played on stage with Mark Holmes, his friend and the former lead singer of Platinum Blonde, the 1980s Toronto-based new wave group best known for its songs Hungry Eyes
and Crying Over You.
This is devastating,
Holmes told the newspaper. He was incredibly happy -- everything was going well for him. ... Kenny and I even got together on the stage and sang three songs from old times. It was one of the happiest nights. It was kind of like a send-off. It was a big and successful party.
