New York’s famous FAO Schwarz toy store says its new Muppet Whatnot Workshop is proving wildly popular.

Established last month by The Muppets Studio and FAO Schwarz, the personalized toy line, which allows people to design their own Muppet creatures, has already surpassed estimates and more than doubled projected sales with sales figures currently at 125 percent above projections, the companies said.

Muppet Whatnots are described as the extras of the Muppet world — the background creatures and other weirdoes who add extra mayhem to every Muppet production, the store said in a release.

Guests at the Fifth Avenue Flagship FAO Schwarz who visit the workshop can express their individuality and creativity by choosing from a wide assortment of Muppet features and outfits to create their own unique Whatnot puppets, the retailer added.

For those who can’t get to the store, The Muppet Whatnot Gift Kit is also available online at www.FAO.com.

We knew a partnership between the Muppets and FAO Schwarz would have tremendous results and are pleased this collaboration is having an even greater impact than we expected, Ed Schmults, CEO of FAO Schwarz, said in a statement. The Whatnots bring great joy to parents who grew up with these beloved characters, and to children who are discovering the Muppet world for the first time.
