Emilio Navaira's brother says the Tejano star underwent brain surgery at a San Antonio hospital after he experienced some swelling on the side of his head.
Raul Navaira told KSAT-TV, San Antonio, Emilio entered the hospital several days ago, but was alert and in stable condition Sunday after the operation to remove a bone and treat an infection.
Raul Navaira added that fans continue to wish his brother well nearly nine months after he was involved in a bus accident near Houston.
There's not a day that I don't go anywhere -- to the store to put gas -- where ever I have to go -- someone is always there saying: 'We're praying for your brother. We're praying for your family.' And it just feels so good,
Raul Navaira told the television station.
Emilio Navaira sustained serious head injuries when he was thrown through the windshield of the vehicle.
Police said he had a blood-alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit at the time of the March accident and didn't have the license required to legally drive the vehicle. He had two other drunken driving arrests on his record at the time of the March crash, but reportedly hasn't been charged in connection with the March incident.
