Europe, Mideast focus of CBS News cuts

CBS News has made staff cuts to its European and Middle Eastern bureaus, including closing its one-person bureau in Bonn, Germany, industry sources say.

The Hollywood Reporter said Friday that CBS News bureaus in Moscow and Tel Aviv, Israel, also endured minor staff cuts as the media group trims operation costs during the global recession.

In total, fewer than 20 people were cut.

The Reporter said by cutting back its international operations, CBS News placed itself in a good position to reallocate resources next year.

The entertainment publication said among the countries that could soon see an increased CBS News presence are Afghanistan, India and Pakistan.
