WFCC: 'Changeling' best movie about women

The Women Film Critics Circle has named Hollywood's Changeling
the year's best movie about women.
Frozen River,
directed by Courtney Hunt, was declared the best movie made by a woman, while its star Melissa Leo won the best actress award.
Screenwriter Jennifer Lumet picked up the prize for best storyteller for Rachel Getting Married,
Mickey Rourke took the best actor honor for The Wrestler
and Abigail Breslin earned the title of best young actress for Kit Kittredge
and Definitely Maybe.
Sally Hawkins from Happy-Go-Lucky
and Meryl Streep from Mamma Mia!
tied in the best comedic actress category and I've Loved You So Long
was named best foreign film.
Winning the award for best female images in a movie was The Secret Life Of Bees,
while
How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer
was named the best film not to get a theatrical release.
Nothing But the Truth
earned the award for best equality of the sexes and Cadillac Records
won the prize for best music.
Wall-E
garnered the awards for best animated feature and best family film.
Streep was also honored with a lifetime achievement award and Natalie Portman was recognized with the WFCC's prize for acting and activism.
The Adrienne Shelly award for a film that most passionately opposes violence against women
went to Changeling
and the Josephine Baker award for best expressing the woman of color experience in America
went to Ballast.
The group's top 10 Hall of Shame for 2008 is: Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired,
House of the Sleeping Beauties,
The Women,
The Life Before Her Eyes,
The Hottie and the Nottie,
Savage Grace,
Made of Honor,
The Family that Preys,
Hounddog
and Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
