This collaboration will allow the development of highly-targeted commercial information products and continuing medical education (CME) programs for physicians, based on aggregated, HIPAA-compliant patient information derived from individual physicians' own patient populations. This informational core will enable the two companies to reach into individual physicians' panels of patients and identify specific practices or particular interest groups of importance to medical marketers or educators. As a result, the industry will now be able to direct surveys and market research to a much greater degree than is presently possible by any other means. For example, physicians with more than 100 active diabetes patients can be identified and the aggregate improvement of the patients can be tracked by viewing changes in laboratory results subsequent to the inclusion of a new drug in their therapeutic regimen. Similarly, physicians' interests and educational needs can be matched to specific, new Internet-delivered CME programming.
